Summary: TrailMap AU does not transmit your data to any server. All GPS tracks, waypoints, and map tiles are stored locally on your device. The only external requests made are for map tile downloads from public mapping services.

Information We Collect

TrailMap AU is an Australian hiking and trails mapping application. The app uses your device's GPS to show your location on the map and to record hiking tracks. All location data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

Location Data

The app uses precise location (GPS) for navigation and track recording. Location data is used only while the app is in the foreground or during active track recording via a foreground service with a visible notification. We do not use background location access. Your GPS tracks and waypoints are stored locally on your device only.

Map Tiles

The app downloads map tiles from public map tile servers (OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap, Esri, and Australian government mapping services) to display maps. Your approximate map viewport location is inherent in tile requests to these servers. Please review the privacy policies of these tile providers.

Data Storage

Saved tracks, waypoints, and downloaded map tiles are stored locally on your device. No data is transmitted to our servers. Uninstalling the app removes all stored data.

Permissions

  • ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION — Required for showing your position and recording tracks
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION — Required for GPS track recording
  • INTERNET — Required for downloading map tiles
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS — Required for track recording notification

  • Esri ArcGIS (satellite imagery)
  • Australian Government mapping services (NSW, QLD, TAS, Geoscience Australia)

Children's Privacy

This app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
